Story of MASKS
On May 1st, I was in Udupi to attend a function. Same day, silver jubilee celebration of "suguna-maala" a monthly booklet from "puttige-matha" (one of the eight mathas founded by Madhwacharya) had commenced. Udupi had attracted lots of people, because of this silver jubilee function, and also because it is vacation time for schools.
When I went to the auditorium where silver jubilee function was supposed to be held, there were three clowns at the gate wearing earthern-masks.
They were all clowns.
They removed the mask after sometime. It is only then I realised that two of them were students of the Sanskrit-school run by the temple. And the third one was a little girl who appeared to be a maid working for the temple. A thought surged through my mind that said that it is THIS mask that made them look equal-as-clowns!
Then another thought arose, which said, it is the same mask that when removed made my mind think that they were from different castes!
This thought was followed by another thought. After all it is the mask which made people look same and look different. So, even we are all clowns wearing a mask called "body" (and one more mask called "mind")
