While returning from 'Sam' one of the places in Jaisalmer where one can see huge expanses of sand-dunes, the driver took us to a muslim village near by. In this part of the country, eggs are available only in muslim villages. First we visited 'Ganga', a muslim village. As we did not get any eggs, we visited the next muslim-village 'Nimba'.

We were told that these are the typical villages you get to see across the border in Pakistan. They were a different race altogether, which I could see looking at their physique. South Indians differ a lot from North Indians. But, these people differed from North Indians also.

A totally illiterate village where you do not see even a single kid going to schools! They appeared to be back in time. Poverty had its ugliest presence. Our jeep was surrounded by kids and elderly as we entered the village. Kids were mischievous as usual :o) They mistook my friend's Canon 600mm f4 lens to some kind of armament!

It was an unusual and sad experience for me, looking at people who did not know anything about human-rights. The village boys very agressive; they will have to be if they have to survive in their world.

The girls, in their tender age, had already learnt to be submissive and most of them stayed away from my camera. I failed to draw a comparison between these jewels of the desert with the modern Indian women of the cities.

WHY IS THIS DISPARITY IN THIS WORLD?

Following lines from "The Mind of Ramana - by Arthur Osborne", I feel, is worth mentioning here:

Dr. D. D. Acharya pleaded eagerly (in his dream) : "But I must attain realization now, in this life! Why should I wait? Why should it go so slowly?"

And Sri Bhagavan (Ramana) laughed. "That is your destiny (prarabdha-karma)"
