African Cheetah may be imported to India !

Reading the news early in the morning, I have no words to comment on whims of the people in power. All I have are only questions, questions and more questions:
  1. Had we given consideration to habitat protection, would we have lost "Indian Cheetah"?
  2. Once upon a time, Asiatic Lions and Cheetahs were spread across the North-Western and Central Indian grasslands. Now, Asiatic Lions are now found only in Gir National Park, Gujarat. On one side, while Gujarat government is not willing to part its Lions to Maharastra - which appears to be a more sensible thing to do - why is the government thinking at importing African Cheetah to a land where habitat loss is on the rise?
  3. Are the wild animals there to entertain us? Why think of animals as a symbol of national ego? Why do we need Cheetah?
  4. Why bring an African Cheetah to a country where Tigers are disappearing day by day. Can't we focus on what we have, what we need to protect, and what we can protect?
  5. Is releasing African Cheetah [scientifically with utmost care] going to bring back the Indian Cheetah we have lost decades ago? If we can't take care of currently surviving Tiger population, why import a different species of Cheetah? Why can not these animals left untouched in their home?
In 2002, Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology (CCMB) had attempted to resurrect Indian Cheetah through cloning. A zoological garden was established in Hyderabad for this project. Nobody knows what happened to this hare-brained idea. Hope the new idea that has gotten into the head of the people in power (and supporting "scientific" community, if any) will also find the same fate.

Leave nature to itself, untouched. It takes care of itself.
May the African Cheetah thrive in Africa. It is their home!
